Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, June 6, 2006

Attending: Board Members Tom Auciello, Dona McAdam, and Allan Swensson, as well as Members Karen Lindner and Wil Nelson.

The meeting was called to order at 7:20pm.

  1. The May Minutes were unanimously accepted as drafted.
  2. A correction was made to the treasurers report due to a recurring bill that was not really a liability. The accounts were increased by $295. See the full Treasurer's report on the ExChange in the Board Room and Minutes conferences for details.
  3. Old Business
    1. Capital Improvement Project - Resource Center Upgrades
      1. Allan didn't spend the $200 for screen paint. Instead he found information on the web for making our own paint for around $50 and we can paint the current screen.
      2. With the new projector in place, dBug is now in the process of selling the old projector. No new info.
    2. Exchange Update Project
      1. Richard Harrell reported to the Board via The ExChange. He added questions to the survey system Bruce setup last month to ask the members how to design the replacement for FirstClass, and what features they would like to see. A motion was made by Tom, seconded by Dona, and approved to accept the survey and to announce it at the July meeting. We will offer a small incentive (like a chance to win Starbucks gift cards) to encourage people to take the survey.
    3. Fundraising
      1. Classes - to be held following the Saturday Cafés (after 12:30pm), weekdays, or Sunday afternoons.
        1. Mac Maintenance - June 17th - $25 - already has registered attendees
        2. WebObjects Basics scheduled for June 24th
        3. UNIX Basics with Bill Campbell scheduled on July 15th
        4. Office Setup with John Livingston tentatively scheduled for August 12th
        5. FileMaker Pro class with Bruce Robertson will likely be scheduled in September since Bruce will be attending a FileMaker convention in August
        6. Quarterly Xcode/Cocoa classes with the Xcoder SIG folks - no new info on this
        7. Photoshop by Mackler, Sobota, and Cochoran - TBA
        8. A music composition class is another idea.
    4. Web Site
      1. Mike Grueter reported that normal maintenance and article updates were done this month.
    5. Newsletter
      1. The June issue is complete and in the mailing process. We are looking for articles from any members to include in upcoming issues.
    6. Main Meeting
      1. We should have the picnic in July because it gets too dark too early in August. We will extend the dBug Cafe to the afternoon and have the picnic as a "pot luck" on Saturday, July 22nd. The picnic will be at Hamlin Park in Shoreline.
  4. New Business
    1. Discussion about dBug hosting Web sites continued. It was decided that dBug should not do this. Instead the Board proposes a class to show people how to do it themselves.
    2. The new Genealogy SIG will start in October at the Resource Center and meet on the first Thursday of each month. Lou Daly will be the SIG Leader and will meet with Mike to get things started.
    3. A motion was made by Dona, seconded by Tom, and approved to NOT accept any more donations of Mac equipment older than a G3 or SCSI equipment or monitors.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20pm.
