Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, March 7, 2006

Attending: Board Members Tom Auciello, Mike Grueter, Dona McAdam, and Allan Swensson, and Members Karen Lindner and Wil Nelson.

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm.

  1. The February Minutes were unanimously accepted with the addition of the Ladybug mice notice in the Fundraising section.
  2. See the Treasurer's report on the ExChange in the Board Room and Minutes conferences.
dBug needs to have 18 new or renewal memberships per month on average in order to fully fund our operations.
The Board resolved that dBug volunteers will:
    1. Send out renewal notices monthly after each Main Meeting
    2. Include renewal info in each newsletter
    3. Start "exit interviews" for members who do not renew each month
  3. Old Business
    1. Capital Improvement Project - Resource Center Upgrades
      1. A new Microtek Microtek CX6 DLP Multimedia Projector has been purchased with Capital Improvement Drive funds and is now installed at the Resource Center.
      2. Our next Resource Center improvement will be a new projector screen. The consensus is to remove the existing screen and paint the wall with projector paint. Allan Swensson is researching this project.
    2. Exchange Update Project
      1. Tom Auciello and Michelle Honey are willing to help Curtis with testing of the new ExChange system. Tom will contact Curtis. Mike will contact Michelle and get her talking to Curtis.
    3. Fundraising
      1. dBug is selling dBug themed, 2-button, scroll-wheel, programmable, laser mice at any event held at the Resource Center.
      2. Classes - to be held following the Saturday Cafés (after 12:30pm), weekdays, or Sunday afternoons.
        1. Bill Campbell is scheduled to hold another UNIX Basics class on March 25th.
        2. April is a possibility for a WebObjects Basics class.
        3. Dona McAdam will take over setting up the Photoshop class from Mike. May 6th is a possible date.
        4. A music composition class is another idea.
    4. Web Site
      1. Mike reported that normal maintenance and article updates were done this month.
    5. Newsletter
      1. Karen and Dona are completing the extended March newsletter.
    6. Main Meeting
      1. The March Main Meeting topic is "Buying a new Mac", the April Main Meeting topic will be "Video Podcasting", and May is tentatively Adobe (Photoshop Elements 4 and possibly Lightroom).
  4. New Business
    1. The building front door has been getting locked after meeting openings by other building tenants, causing late-comers to be locked out. We will make a sign that says "dBug Meeting In Progress. Please do not lock this door.", and we recommend that the door be checked every 15 minutes or so during meetings.
    2. Mike motioned that Joyce Schowalter will lead a new "Current Events" SIG that will meet at the Resource Center on Friday evenings. Joyce will collect food and room use donations. Dona seconded the motion and the Board voted unanimously in favor.
    3. Karen Lindner will announce (via the ExChange and the newsletter) to the membership that dBug would like a Publicity Committee.
Functions of the committee will include:
      1. Finding new venues for dBug advertisements
      2. Making dBug meetings sound exciting in writing
      3. Sending meeting notices to appropriate advertising venues
      4. Distributing dBug MacNews to Apple vendors (Micro, Shoreline and U bookstores, Apple Stores, etc.)

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35pm.
