Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, January 3, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7:10pm.

Present were Board Members Tom Auciello, Cathy Doser, Mike Grueter, Karen Lindner, Dona McAdam, Caryn Roberts, and Allan Swensson, as well as members Richard Harrell and Wil Nelson.

  1. Karen made a few amendments to the December BoD meeting notes, and the amended notes passed unanimously.
  2. See the Treasurer's report on the ExChange in the Board Room and Minutes conferences.
  3. 2006 Board Members Tom Auciello, Mike Grueter, Dona McAdam, and Allan Swensson were officially sworn in.
  4. Allan Swensson was unanimously elected as 2006 President of dBug.
  5. Karen Lindner will continue as 2006 dBug Treasurer until another kind member relieves her burden.
  6. Old Business
    1. Exchange Update Project
      1. Curtis sent Mike and Wil some new account information for selected dBug Members to test. Mike and Wil have sent the login information to the other members and are waiting for responses.
    2. Fundraising
      1. Classes - Follow the Saturday Cafe 1-5pm, 6-10pm, or Sunday afternoons
        1. Wil and Karen's Class OS X Basics (next one will be end of March/early April)
        2. Unix Class (tentatively set for January 28th)
        3. WebObjects (maybe February or March)
        4. Xcode/Cocoa - Quarterly (Check with George for the date of the next class)
        5. Follow "Missing Manual" series as the book for iMovie/iDVD, iPhoto, OS X
        6. MacBasics Class - Quarterly
        7. MacAdvanced Class - Quarterly
        8. Photoshop class by Curtis' friend would like a 1st Saturday. Mike will contact him. $100 per attendee, minimum 10 attendees, split proceeds 50/50 with dBug. We suggest March.
        9. Music Composition class?
      2. Sublet dBug space proposal - Caryn has asked Delicious if they are interested in sub-leasing, but has not gotten a response. Caryn will create a new proposal.
    3. The Website has been updated regularly with new content. Mike will update Kagi and dBug Web site membership dues numbers.
    4. Newsletter - Dick reported that the next newsletter will come out after the January Main Meeting.
    5. Projector - We still plan on buying a new projector. Cathy and Caryn have found a good one we could buy. Evan may not want to buy the old one. Mike will ask him about it and try to get a firm answer. If he wants it, we'll sell it to him for $200. Otherwise we'll offer it to any dBug member for $400 and split the proceeds with Evan, or sell it on eBay if no member wants to buy it.
  7. New Business
    1. Cathy and Caryn recommend creating a PR/Advertising committee to help boost membership.
    2. Bill Campbell has expressed some interest in being on the Board of Directors.
    3. Upcoming Monthly Events
      1. December - Party
      2. January - Macworld Wrap-up (Raffle of iPod?), Wireless Security, Microsoft Usability Pitch. Bruce, Dan, Curtis, and Dick will be attending Macworld and will give presentations at our January Main Meeting.
      3. February - Adobe (Raffle of Adobe products)
      4. March - Buying a New Mac: Waiting for Intel? (Raffle of G4 Tower for Audio Server?)
      5. April - Video Podcasting: How to make your project Video iPod capable
    4. Communications - Letter from Kathryn Whitacre
  8. The Good of dBug
    1. Karen recommends that at least one dBug Board member attend each Saturday Cafe.
    2. Mike recommended that we give "exit interviews" to members that do not renew their memberships. Tom will begin that process.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm.
