Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, July 2, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm. Karen Lindner, Allan Swensson, and Mike Grueter were in in attendance.

New DSL Service

We discussed the collected information on pricing and speed of 3 alternative DSL services: Drizzle, Speakeasy, and OlympusNet.

The Board voted to sign up with Drizzle. The reasons given are that it is cheaper at the speed we want, and ADSL upload speeds higher than 384K are not supported at our current site, we will revisit Speakeasy and any other new alternatives in 1 year. By that time we will be at a new location, and other opportunities may present themselves.

Mike will now continue with the DSL switch process.

dBug Advertising/Events/etc.

We would like to add Kagi as an online dBug membership payment option, in addition to PayPal.

Either the Times or the PI now has a business event calendar of sorts in the Monday paper. We will investigate and ad that to our advertising possibilities.

Karen will contact CafePress.com <http://www.cafepress.com/> to open an account so we can sell dBug emblazoned mugs, mousepads, shirts, etc.

Karen's perception is that dBug gets more membership renewals when we mail newsletters. Jim DaMico is in charge of our next newsletter which should be mailed on August 1st. Dona will be unavailable to do the layout and design for this newsletter, so Karen will ask Diane Kwong if she can help.

The Octoberish main meeting will be tentatively Apple focused. We will either have it at the U District Apple Store (if available) or Shoreline Community Center. Mike G or Mike Kahn will attempt to contact Apple to get a presenter. We need to find a dBugger to be our Apple Ambassador.

As an aside, the The Ram WWDC Keynote event was great, and they said they'd be happy to have us back for similar events, so they are now designated our Keynote party place.

Karen will announce the Picnic and Henry will make a slideshow to put on our website with photos from prior picnics. This year we will have a "most interesting t-shirt" contest.

Sandro is in agreement with the monthly e-mailing plan. He has provided us with automatic subscribe/unsubscribe options that Don will add to our web site. We need a dBug member to take charge of our monthly e-mailing each month. This will involve working with the Board to determine the content each month, and coordinating with Sandro to send the e-mail.

New Resource Center

We looked at several options for a new Resource Center on the web, but want to meet with Keoni Fursse (206-381-3810) ASAP to look at spaces that meet the following criterion:

- $15.00/sq feet or less
- 600-800 sq/feet
- AC
- Off street parking during day for 1-4 and weekend and evening for 20-30
- Between I-90 and 520 or thereabouts
- 10 minutes from a freeway exit
- High speed DSL access
- Prefer class B building (c OK)

New Board Meeting Night

Allan would rather meet on a Mon (other than the 4th Monday), Tuesday, or Thursday night. We'll check with Don and Jim to check for their preferred meeting nights. From the dBug calendar, it looks like the 2nd Monday and 4th Thursday of each month would be the only nights available.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm, and the next meeting will be Wednesday, August 6th at 7pm unless we decide on a new meeting night before then.
