Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, June 4, 2003

The board meeting was called to order at 7:15 pm. Attending were Mike Grueter, Don Arbow, Karen Lindner, Dick Carter and Nancy Siburg.

Swap Meet - Cost $308.00 - Income 231.00 = Loss of $77.00. One seller got away without paying and we are hopeful we will recover the $35.00 = Loss of $42.00.

-Lessons learned: Not enough publicity; Rooms for the two offerings of swap meet and Mac Expo Presentations not easily accessible; Too few people doing the work.

    - Many ideas were put forth on publicity: Sending e-mails to dBug's established mailing list 4-6 weeks before the event. Monthly mailings to include other relevant information, e.g., Sig of the Month. Mike mentioned several computer sites which have been used: Computer User, Use Net groups, CraigsList, Apple User group calendar, MUG Central, SeaTimes on Line Calendar, Mac in touch and the Seattle Times classified, computer section. Mike will contact Sandro about a list.

Karen noted the questions and comments on the Financial Report. She had not mentioned that there was $4,200.00 in the bank. The DSL lines have been costing too much and a decision has been made to change the present set up to one line. This has not been done as yet but will be in the near future. A refund is due from ELI (about $385.00). Possible connections could be Olympus Net or Drizzle. Mike states Drizzle service is good and agreed to make the arrangements for the new DSL line.

Plans for a new RC location are warming up since our lease is up August 31st. A new real estate agent is being contacted since the woman we were working with has left the business. The building next to the present RC is a viable fallback location unless something better is found. That location is less money and has more space.

Don is working on the web site and hopes to have it up soon. He will have a way to subscribe/unsubscribe.

Membership recruitment was discussed. One suggestion was sending a monthly e-mail (as mentioned above) with a different focus each month. September could be "bring a friend month". Members could be encouraged to bring a friend to a sig or the Saturday cafe....in our new RC. Advertising again mentioned as a good way to bring folks in.

The Apple Store in Bellevue and the Apple Store next to Bartell's in University Village were suggested as places to visit and distribute literature if possible.

The meeting was adjourned and the next board meeting will be Wed., July 2nd at 7 pm.
